For more than 20 years, Nick Dunham has built a career dedicated to the fire service. He has successfully navigated and served within military, industrial, and municipal fire departments, giving him firsthand knowledge of what it takes to earn a position in one of the most competitive professions in the world. Throughout his career, he has also served as a firefighter, dual-service paramedic, training officer, and now as a Career Acting Captain with a municipal fire department in Southern Ontario.
Unlike many career coaches, Nick doesn't teach theory, he teaches proven strategies built from real-world experience. He has personally completed the same recruitment processes that aspiring firefighters face today and has spent years evaluating, mentoring, and developing future firefighters from the other side of the table. That unique perspective allows him to understand not only what hiring panels are looking for, but why strong candidates sometimes fail to stand out.
Nick holds a Bachelor of Applied Business in Emergency Services and has been educating and mentoring aspiring firefighters since becoming a fire service instructor in 2008. As a college professor in pre-service firefighter programs, he has helped hundreds of students develop the technical skills, professionalism, confidence, and mindset required to succeed in the recruitment process and beyond.
His dedication to the profession has been recognized with the Fire Services Exemplary Service Medal for 20 years of distinguished service and the King Charles III Coronation Medal for his contributions to community service, firefighter education, and leadership.
